Import of Broodstock Shrimp in Vietnam in 2024

To promote the development of domestic broodstock shrimp, a fundamental shift in mindset is needed, prioritizing long-term investment over short-term profits. Advancing science, technology, and innovation in this field requires significant time for capital recovery, so businesses must have sufficient financial resilience to sustain operations.

A key solution is to focus on the quality, rather than the quantity, of enterprises producing shrimp seeds. The government should implement policies to filter out small-scale facilities that lack the financial and technological capacity, while encouraging capable businesses to invest in high-tech solutions for domesticating broodstock shrimp in Vietnam to secure a self-sufficient seed supply.

To achieve this, the government must partner with businesses by creating supportive mechanisms, such as access to capital, tax incentives, and science and technology policies, to foster favorable conditions for growth. Investing in national seed research centers and collaborating with international genetic organizations are also critical steps to accelerate the development of domestic broodstock.

Without prompt and decisive action, Vietnam risks losing its competitive edge and falling behind in the race among the world’s leading shrimp-producing nations.
